Lemon Ginger Herb Sipping Broth

Paleo, Keto, Dairy-Free, Gluten-Free, Nut-Free, FODMAP-Friendly

Want to drink more broth but don’t love the flavor? This sipping broth is refreshing, tasty, and great for your immune system! It’s easy too–throw the ingredients in a pot or Instant Pot and keep warm to go back for refills all day long.

I make my bone broth very plain, not using any garlic, onion, carrots, or other ingredients that you often see in broth recipes. This way, I can use it in lots of different ways without an already-strong flavor coming through. For example, in this recipe, the flavors of the ingredients you put in will be what comes through because the broth itself is very plain.

This recipe is easily customizable to your taste. Really like ginger? Throw more in! Not a fan of rosemary? Skip it, or add thyme instead. Add garlic and a pinch of cayenne to give it a kick. I like it just how it is written below, but you can make it yours by playing around with the flavors.

Kitchen Items

Lemon Ginger Herb Sipping Broth

Ingredients

4 cups broth

2 cups water

1 lemon, cut in half

1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

1 knob ginger (about 1″x1″)

1 bunch fresh parsley

2 springs fresh rosemary

Directions

  1. Put broth in a large pot or Instant Pot. Add water.
  2. Squeeze lemon juice into the pot. Put the squeezed lemon rind into the pot.
  3. Peel and grate the ginger into the pot.
  4. Loosely chop the parsley and rosemary to release the flavor, and add to the pot.
  5. If using a pot on a stove:
    • Heat mixture until it achieves a low simmer. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to steep. Keep an eye on the water level and add water as needed.
    • When ready, put heat to lowest setting. Strain out the lemon rinds.
  6. If using an Instant Pot:
    • Place on Keep Warm and cover with the lid. Keep lid on until the broth is hot, about 30 minutes.
    • Strain out the lemon rinds and set on Keep Warm and drink throughout the day. Add water as needed.

Notes:

  • If you are using the Instant Pot and need to have broth ready faster, press Steam and set time to 1 minute. Cover with lid and set to Seal. The mixture will be boiling when done. Set on Keep Warm and drink throughout the day.
  • You can keep the ginger and herbs in the pot as long as you’d like, but strain the lemon rinds out after 30 minutes so the broth doesn’t get too bitter.
